Incipio provided us the DualPro CF case for the iPhone 5 for review. At first we weren’t sure what the CF stood for but once we opened the package we knew immediately, carbon fiber. How does it stand up to real world use? Find out in the full review after the break!
On closer inspection, while the CF stands for Carbon Fiber, the DualPro is not actually made of carbon fiber material. It doesn’t stop the Incipio DualPro CF from looking great though. With a two piece build possessing a silicone core and a rigid Plextonium(TM) shell, the DualPro CF boasts a decent amount of protection.
As always, Incipio includes a screenshield which works great and applies easily. Installation of the DualPro CF was simple: slide the iPhone 5 into the silicone core and then snap on the rigid shell. Once encased, the iPhone 5 inside was well protected. In our experience, a few drops from standing height left no marks or damaged the iPhone 5 at all.
While the carbon fiber finish does look great, we did find that it provided very little grip. This posed an issue during instances where we were pulling out the phone to make phone calls. The lack of grip made us do a double take when the phone slipped from our hand.
No issues with the camera cut out were experienced and all covered buttons provided good feedback. The 3.5mm jack on the bottom of the iPhone 5 was also still easily accessible. With a lay on the table design the screenshield was not really needed but welcome.
Of course with the added impact protection of the inner silicone core comes some downsides. It did tend to collect lint from our pockets during our week of use. Not as excessive as other cases we have tested but still noticeable.
Overall the Incipio DualPro CF provides great impact protection while introducing a bit of carbon fiber flair. Our only wish was that it had a bit more grip so we didn’t have to have our hearts skip a beat.
