The iPad is a great device when you’re carrying it around, but what about those instances where you want to set it down and go gloriously hands free? Dockem has you covered with the Koala Mount. Does it succeed? Find out in the full review after the break!
Looking at the package, the design of the Koala Mount seems very simplistic. There are two chrome covered brackets that serve to create a mount for your iPad. What was intriguing was the fact that Dockem mentions that the Koala Mount can be installed damage-free. After opening the package, we find out why.
Included with the two brackets are 3M command strips which are used to mount the brackets to any material you can think of, while also being very easy to remove later on. In our test run we attached it to our wall in the office. Installation was simple enough: measure the size of the iPad/tablet you’ll be using it for and place those brackets on the wall with the supplied 3M strips. Dockem did include some alcohol prep pads so that you can clean the surface you are attaching it to.
Once installed, the Koala Mount worked just as advertised, it held the iPad Mini with ease even with a case on. It went well with the decor and did not stand out too much at all. Sliding the iPad Mini in and out of the Koala Mount was easy, but make sure you measure the separation of the brackets correctly. The only true issue once installed was the brackets themselves are fingerprint magnets with the chrome finish. They are easily cleaned and rarely touched, but it was a small annoyance.
Overall, the Koala Mount performed very well with minimal issues other than the fingerprint attraction issues we experienced. Add a few more color/finish choices to the mix (they have Chrome/Black/White right now) and Dockem has a truly versatile and simple wall mount for your iPad/tablet device.
